Programme notes:

Tereza Jaďuďová (b. 2001)
2 Nocturnes, Op. 7
Written in  2013

Dedicated to her close family friends and neighbors, Jaďuďová’s 2 Nocturnes represent a deeply personal gesture of gratitude. As the composer herself wrote, “I know that flowers and chocolates can be a cliché… so instead, I composed two nocturnes for you.” Though intimate in origin, these pieces transcend their dedication, unfolding a nuanced world of lyrical reflection and expressive depth.

Stylistically, the nocturnes echo the romantic tradition of Chopin and Field while incorporating Jaďuďová’s emerging voice—a blend of sensitivity, clarity, and emotional sincerity. Compared to her earlier, more pedagogical works, Op. 7 marks a step toward artistic maturity.

No. 1
Marked Grave and later Rubato, the first nocturne is spacious and contemplative. A gentle melody emerges over shifting harmonies, unfolding in waves of restrained intensity. As the music swells, moments of emotional urgency break through the texture before settling back into stillness. The piece captures a late-night solitude—quiet, introspective, yet filled with feeling.

No. 2
In contrast to the first, this nocturne is marked Andante and sings with calm, lyrical grace. The phrasing is tender and songlike, with expressive nuance and delicate interplay between melody and accompaniment. It feels like a nocturnal conversation—softly spoken, full of warmth, and illuminated from within.
