Tereza Jaďuďová (b. 2001)
Violin Concerto No.1, Op. 54
Written in 2021
Dedicated to Dalibor Karvay
Composed in just over a week, Jaďuďová’s Violin Concerto No. 1 emerged directly from the inspiration of hearing Dalibor Karvay in concert. Written for full orchestra and solo violin, the work blends Romantic virtuosity with clear structural design, giving equal weight to lyricism, drama, and technical brilliance.
I.
The opening movement begins in an atmosphere of mystery, with the solo violin emerging from orchestral textures in long, searching lines. Moments of lyrical expansion alternate with bursts of virtuosic passagework, maintaining a sense of tension between restraint and release.
II.
The second movement has a more flowing and open character, with the violin singing extended melodic ideas. Orchestral interjections provide contrast, creating a dialogue that moves from tender reflection to playful interplay.
III.
The finale bursts with rhythmic energy and technical brilliance, inspired by a Russian folk song. Rapid figurations, double-stops, and wide-ranging leaps showcase the soloist’s virtuosity, while the orchestra drives the music toward a spirited conclusion.
