Tereza Jaďuďová (b. 2001)
Symphony No.1, Op. 25
Written in 2017-2018, rev. in 2022
Tereza Jaďuďová’s Symphony No. 1 is a strikingly ambitious and emotionally rich work written when the composer was just sixteen years old. It marks her first foray into symphonic writing—a genre traditionally associated with large forms, dramatic pacing, and emotional scope. Composed over the course of several weeks in 2017 and 2018 and later revised in 2022, the symphony reflects both youthful intensity and early maturity, channeling influences from late Romantic and early 20th-century orchestral traditions into a highly personal voice.
Written for a full symphonic ensemble, the work employs a wide palette of orchestral color, including harp, glockenspiel, and a variety of percussion instruments alongside the traditional strings and winds. Each movement explores a different facet of emotional or narrative expression, unified by a strong sense of architecture and thematic development.
