Scandinavian Fantasy, Op. 67
Written in 2025
Scandinavian Fantasy was written during the composer’s 2025 summer journey to Norway, from Trondheim to Oslo. At its core lies a simple theme that undergoes constant transformation—short episodic metamorphoses that reflect shifting landscapes and atmospheres. Above a string ensemble in which each instrument has its own distinct role (though not full independence), the solo violin carries the narrative voice.
Written for Milan Paľa, the solo part alternates between lyrical lines and the use of extended techniques, evoking the raw textures and elemental force of the Nordic environment. The orchestral writing captures contrasts between rugged coastlines, vast mountain ranges, and fleeting moments of stillness, creating a musical portrait of the North that is both personal and imaginative.
