Written as a heartfelt tribute “for the best teacher in the world,” Romance, Op. 10, is Tereza Jaďuďová’s most expansive solo piano work to date. Dedicated to Ladislav Vaszily, the piece carries the weight of sincere admiration. With its soaring melodies and expressive phrasing, Romance stands as a lyrical centerpiece in the composer’s early catalogue.

The piece blends Romantic sentimentality with a modern clarity of form. At times passionate, at times restrained, it unfolds in broad, song-like arches. Its shifting moods—from tender cantabile lines to brilliant outbursts—reflect the emotional complexity of gratitude, respect, and affection.

Marked appassionato e cantabile, the music traverses various episodes of melodic richness, culminating in a vibrant Allegretto ma non troppo section that balances motion and nostalgia. A final return to the original theme offers closure with quiet conviction, echoing a deeply personal yet universally relatable message: that of devotion through music.
