Tereza Jaďuďová (b. 2001)
Paraphrase on Marche Funebre, Op. 21
Written in 2016
A powerful tribute to one of her musical idols, Paraphrase on Marche Funèbre transforms Chopin’s iconic funeral march into a personal, dramatic concert work. Written in just two days during the Christmas holidays, Jaďuďová’s paraphrase is not merely an arrangement—it is a bold reimagining filled with emotional extremes, virtuosity, and narrative depth.
Rather than offering comfort or closure, Jaďuďová’s Paraphrase leaves the listener in a state of unresolved grief and admiration. It is both an homage and a self-portrait, composed in the shadow—and light—of Chopin.
