Nocturnal Resonance, Op. 70
Written in 2025
Dedicated to a person who has guided, supported, and profoundly shaped the composer’s path
Nocturnal Resonance is an introspective work for solo cello, unfolding as a quiet dialogue between sound, memory, and personal connection. Set within a restrained nocturnal atmosphere, the piece places emphasis on resonance, silence, and the natural decay of sound as primary expressive elements.
At its core lies a principal motif derived from the letters of the dedicatee’s name, transformed into a musical anagram. This intimate cipher becomes the foundation of the work, reappearing in various forms—at times clearly present, at others absorbed into timbre, register, and resonance.
The cello’s expressive range is expanded through subtle use of extended techniques, including fragile harmonics, nuanced bow pressure, and the natural resonance of open strings. Rather than dramatic contrast, the music evolves organically, shaped by breath-like phrasing and a sense of inner stillness.
More than anything, Nocturnal Resonance stands as a gesture of gratitude—an intimate musical reflection of a presence that offers guidance, direction, and deep personal meaning.
