Grande Valse Brillante, Op. 6
Written in 2013
Tereza Jaďuďová’s Grande Valse Brillante, Op. 6, is a vivid and heartfelt tribute to her great-grandmother, to whom the piece is lovingly dedicated. Composed over a single week in May and June of 2013, the waltz carries both virtuosic flair and deep personal emotion. While the title echoes Chopin’s dazzling salon style, Jaďuďová’s voice is distinctly her own—blending romantic elegance with expressive modern touches.
Marked Tempo di Valse, the piece unfolds with sweeping gestures, rich harmonic turns, and a dynamic rubato style. Brilliant passagework and lyrical lines alternate in a freely unfolding structure, evoking memories both joyful and bittersweet. The emotional centerpiece lies in the composer’s sincere wish: “I would love to personally play this opus for you. So, maybe next time.”
Though the piece sparkles with outward charm and momentum, it is underpinned by grief, longing, and gratitude—a musical farewell imbued with grace, lightness, and dignity.
