MOR HO! OP. 60

Programme notes:

Tereza Jaďuďová (b. 2001)
Fragments from Mor ho!, Op. 60a
Written in 2023

Fragments from Mor ho! is a chamber reimagining of material from Jaďuďová’s large-scale symphonic poem Mor ho! (Op. 60). Scored for flute, clarinet, vibraphone, piano, violin, and cello, the work distills key thematic ideas into a compact form, preserving their dramatic contour while transforming their orchestral colours into intimate chamber textures.

Rather than attempting to recreate the full narrative of Chalupka’s text, the Fragments focus on musical moments: the solemn opening motif, the energetic battle figures, and the quiet, noble resolution. Shifts in timbre—from the percussive brightness of the vibraphone to the warm blend of strings and winds—allow the themes to be heard in a new light.

In this reduced form, the music takes on a more transparent, almost crystalline quality, revealing the motivic connections and emotional arc that underpin the larger work.
