Cesta domov
Created in 2025
The electroacoustic work Cesta domov (The Way Home) is divided into two contrasting yet interconnected parts, united by themes of past, home, and origins. Each section offers a distinct perspective, shaped by the personal experiences of the two co-authors, who come from different cultural and family backgrounds.
The first part, by Olesia Stepura, builds a sound world from fragments of childhood and adolescence, a longing for her native land, and an ongoing search for a true home. These feelings are expressed through field recordings, processed samples of folk songs, sounds of analogue synthesizers, and recited poetry by the Ukrainian writer Lesya Ukrainka.
In the second part, Tereza Jaďuďová draws inspiration from the stories of her beloved grandmother—stories that help her better understand her own identity. Part of her heritage reaches back to Bosnia, and in recent years she has consciously incorporated this legacy into her music. She works here with fragments of sevdalinkas—traditional Sarajevo songs full of emotion and longing—combining them with recitation to evoke space, memory, and nostalgia.
The overall atmosphere is completed by a video projection and a movement performance by Polina Stepura, creating an immersive reflection on home as a place that exists both in reality and in memory.
