Album for Young, Op. 1
Written in 2011–2012
Tereza Jaďuďová’s Album for Young is a charming and emotionally varied collection of ten miniatures, reflecting both pedagogical inspiration and expressive imagination. Echoing the tradition of albums by composers such as Schumann and Tchaikovsky, Jaďuďová crafts each piece with care for melody, character, and accessibility for younger performers—while also offering subtle sophistication that rewards more advanced listeners.
No. 1 – Little Music (Song for Anetka)
A gentle, lyrical piece dedicated to her dog, this opening number serves as a tender invocation. The music sings with simplicity and warmth, evoking the innocence of childhood.
No. 2 – Circle of Life
With energetic rhythm and perpetual motion, this Presto movement symbolizes the unstoppable momentum of life. Repetition and variation create a sense of continuity and growth.
No. 3 – Valse
A light-hearted waltz with a nostalgic character, this miniature dances with both elegance and playfulness. It pays homage to salon music with a modern sensibility.
No. 4 – Menuett
This Allegretto blends classical form with a fresh voice. Its balanced phrases and crisp articulation make it ideal for cultivating stylistic clarity and poise.
No. 5 – Ragtime
Jaďuďová’s nod to early jazz brings syncopated joy into the set. With its bouncing rhythms and surprising turns, it invites the player to embrace rhythmic precision with flair.
No. 6 – Song without Words
Evocative and introspective, this piece lets the melody speak directly to the heart. Reminiscent of Mendelssohn’s lyricism, it invites expressive phrasing and a cantabile touch.
No. 7 – The Storm
A dramatic miniature filled with contrasts and energy. The sudden dynamic shifts and percussive motifs paint a vivid musical landscape of nature’s turbulent power.
No. 8 – Prelude for You
An intimate offering, this prelude is a personal message cast in music. Expressive yet restrained, it gently unfolds with warmth and emotional sincerity.
No. 9 – Memory of P.I. Tchaikovsky
Perhaps the emotional heart of the album, this piece reflects the influence of Tchaikovsky with its lyrical melancholy and sweeping lines. A musical tribute steeped in respect and affection.
No. 10 – I Love Rock’n’Roll!
The final piece explodes with rhythmic energy and rebellious spirit. Drawing inspiration from popular music, it closes the set with a smile, a wink—and a stomp.
