3 Nocturnes, Op. 51
Written in 2022

Subtitled “After Chopin”, this set of three nocturnes for solo piano is both a tribute to the Romantic master and a personal reflection in the genre. While rooted in the cantabile lyricism and flowing accompaniment patterns of Chopin’s nocturnes, Jaďuďová’s pieces speak with her own voice, shaped by her own harmonic and dynamic sensibilities.

No. 1 – Andante cantabile
The first nocturne opens with a gentle, singing melody supported by flowing accompaniment. Dynamic swells and subtle rubato create a sense of expressive freedom, while the texture remains intimate.

No. 2 – Andante espressivo
Marked by a more sustained lyricism, the second nocturne moves in long expressive lines. Contrasts between dolce phrases and more impassioned climaxes add depth, with moments of rubato allowing the melody to breathe.

No. 3 – Lento espressivo
The final nocturne begins with a quiet, introspective theme. Gradual crescendos lead to more intense central passages, before the music returns to its opening calm. The closing pages fade to ppp, ending the set in stillness.
