3 Nocturnes, Op. 14
Written in 2015-2016
Dedicated “to beloved people in my life”, Tereza Jaďuďová’s Three Nocturnes offer a deeply intimate musical portrait. While grounded in the Romantic tradition of Chopin and Field, these works express a highly personal, contemporary lyricism. Each nocturne is dedicated to a different person and evokes a distinct emotional atmosphere, from tender reflection to radiant affection. They are united by their expressive cantabile lines, nuanced rubato, and heartfelt sincerity.
No. 1
Marked placido, dolce e cantabile, this nocturne unfolds with quiet serenity and warmth. Its flowing melodic lines and delicate textures evoke the feeling of a gentle conversation or a whispered lullaby. A central section introduces a little bit of dramatic tension, which eventually dissolves back into calm.
No. 2
Expressive and noble, this nocturne begins Andante quasi Adagio, emphasizing melodic beauty and emotional restraint. Rich harmonic progressions and subtle rhythmic shifts shape its evolving narrative. The piece speaks with lyrical dignity, suggesting deep affection and contemplation.
No. 3
Opening Adagio, the final nocturne is the most mysterious of the three. It features unexpected harmonic colors and rhythmic ambiguity, moving between introspection and brightness. A main Allegretto section adds lightness and charm, with a brief unexpected shift before returning to a reflective close.
