Written in 2014-2015
In her 3 Grande Valses, Tereza Jaďuďová revives the spirit of the Romantic concert waltz with a fresh, modern voice. Combining elegance, nobility, and moments of virtuosic flair, each waltz in the set offers a distinct character—ranging from fiery brilliance to lyrical tenderness. While rooted in tradition, the pieces display a personal expressiveness that feels intimate yet grand. They are as much for the concert stage as they are for the joy of the pianist.
No. 1
Marked Allegro agitato quasi Presto, the first waltz bursts forth with brilliant momentum and swirling textures. Spirited rhythms and virtuosic runs give it a fiery energy, while expressive rubato sections offer moments of reflection. Its form blends traditional waltz gestures with dramatic flair.
No. 2
This waltz stands out for its cantabile elegance and romantic warmth. Rich inner voicing and lyrical phrasing bring out its songful nature. Amid moments of tenderness, the music builds toward more impassioned climaxes, showcasing both dynamic range and emotional nuance.
No. 3
The final waltz is animated and playful, yet occasionally tinged with wistfulness. Jaďuďová weaves rapid passagework, expressive sighing motifs, and dramatic shifts into a seamless, engaging whole. It closes the set with theatrical brilliance and stylistic charm.
