24 Preludes, Op. 53
Written in 2020-2022
Written in just two weeks, Tereza Jaďuďová’s 24 Preludes form a complete cycle through all keys, following the Romantic tradition of Chopin, Scriabin, and Rachmaninoff, yet filtered through her own compact, contemporary voice. Each prelude is a self-contained miniature, some no more than a page, yet each defined by a distinct texture, gesture, or mood.
The cycle moves between contrasting atmospheres: from bold declamatory statements to delicate transparent textures, from folkloric lyricism to playful rhythmic figures, from moments of introspection to flashes of brilliance. Together, the preludes create a kaleidoscope of emotions and colours, unified by their brevity and concentrated expression.
While technically varied, the set remains pianistically idiomatic, drawing on simple ideas transformed through harmonic shading and dynamic nuance. Heard in sequence, the 24 preludes offer both a tour through all tonalities and a compact musical diary—a concentrated expression of Jaďuďová’s style
