Subtitled “There is beauty in simplicity”, this short cycle for male choir (TTBB) sets two poems by Janko Kráľ—one of the most radical poets of the Slovak Štúrovci movement. Jaďuďová approaches these historic texts with clarity of declamation and a style that balances folk character with classical choral writing.
I.
Opening Moderato, the first setting portrays the strength and unity of the Slovak people, using robust unison lines and strong declamation. The music alternates between bold statements and quieter, reflective passages, matching the poem’s alternation of pride and determination.
II.
Also Moderato, the second song speaks more inwardly, with the choir’s lines moving in homophonic blocks. The text’s message of perseverance and moral strength is supported by the steady pulse and direct harmonic language, creating a sense of simplicity that honours both the words and their spirit.
