10 Preludes, Op. 4
Written in 2013

Tereza Jaďuďová’s 10 Preludes, Op. 4, is a deeply personal cycle of short piano pieces composed between Christmas and her mother’s birthday. Each prelude is dedicated to a member of her family, yet the entire collection is offered as a loving gift to her mother. The set moves fluidly through moods and characters—from stormy virtuosity to quiet reflection—and showcases Jaďuďová’s sensitive approach to miniature form.

No. 1
A bold and ceremonious opening, marked Allegro Maestoso. This prelude balances grandeur with expressive detail, setting the tone for a cycle filled with emotional depth.

No. 2 – Memories of the Adriatic: Fantaisie
Dreamlike and flowing, this piece evokes sunlit seascapes and distant memories. Shimmering textures and lyrical lines recall the impressionistic idiom, with a personal twist.

No. 3
Marked Lento quasi Air, this prelude floats gently on lyrical phrases. A sense of calm and timelessness permeates the music, like a tender conversation or quiet remembrance.

No. 4
With lively contrasts and shifting tempi, this prelude dances between playfulness and introspection. Rhythmic clarity and expressive freedom coexist in surprising harmony.

No. 5
Energetic and percussive, this Allegro marcato features driving rhythms and bold gestures. Its physicality suggests both strength and determination—tempered by brief moments of lyricism.

No. 6
A whimsical, folk-tinged piece full of charm and lightness. Allegretto Giocoso meets Largo Sostenuto in a dialogue between brightness and nostalgia.

No. 7
Fast and sparkling, this Presto Marcato prelude captures the spirit of two playful children. Repetitive motifs and quick changes create a sense of joyful mischief.

No. 8
A slow, lyrical meditation marked Largo Sostenuto. This piece is intimate and emotionally resonant, unfolding with quiet intensity and expressive nuance.

No. 9
Marked Andante, this prelude blends warmth with melancholy. Singing lines and gentle harmonic shifts create a space for reflection and emotional honesty.

No. 10
The final prelude returns with rhythmic drive and spirited momentum. A celebratory close to the set, this Allegretto con moto pulses with gratitude, wit, and affirmation.
